Have you dreamed of making your own yarn using a spinning wheel? In this class you will learn the basics of spinning wheel operation, how to adjust tension, care for your wheel and most importantly make YARN! We will start by learning about wheels, their parts and how they work. Then we will learn to draft wool and control twist creating yarn singles. We will continue our spinning practice using different wools and different wool preparations. By the end of the day we will ply our singles, and you will have yarn to take home! If you have a spinning wheel in working condition, please bring it. Also, if you have any of the following, please bring 2-3 empty bobbins, spinning wheel oil, an orifice hook, a lazy kate, or a ball winder and several empty toilet paper tubes. The guild can provide a wheel if you do not have one, please let us know when you register. If your wheel has issues and you're not sure if it is suitable for class, please ask to have the teacher contact you when you register

Join Becky, Phoebe, Ila, and Sue for a morning of inkle loom weaving instruction. You’ll learn to warp your loom, make heddles, pick a pattern and start to weave. With four of us co-teaching and an instructional handout, you’ll have plenty of help. It is a morning class, and we will plan to continue weaving in the spinning circle all afternoon so you can join us if you want to continue.

What to bring:
An inkle loom - Your inkle loom should have secure pegs and a tensioning device. We have a few extras to loan for the day so let us know if you need one.
Cotton yarns - the best yarns to begin with are strong, smooth, not too stretchy, and a comfortable size for your fingers to handle. You will use at least two or three contrasting colors. Mercerized cottons sizes 3/2 or 5/2 are good and easy to obtain.
Shuttle - a small flat shuttle with a beveled edge for weaving back and forth and pressing the yarn into place. In a pinch a 6” ruler will do.

We will bring: yarn to share and/or purchase, heddle string, a few extra shuttles, a handout, patterns, and lots of our weavings to use as samples of what you can do.

Learn the fun and joy of Nuno felting while you create a small purse, suitable for a cell phone, quick trip to the store, or a night at the opera!
Nuno is the Japanese word for fabric or cloth. Nuno felting is a wet felting technique where loose wool fibers are bonded to a sheer fabric such as cotton or lightweight silk. This process creates a sturdy fabric that has a rippled or pebbled surface. The fabric can be light weight and drapey to heavy and very durable.
Another great aspect of this craft is that it takes minimal equipment to do and can take up as much or as little space as you have.
In this class we will learn about:
* Materials selection: What works and what doesn’t for the Nuno felting process
* Fabric, fiber and sources for each
* Materials requirements calculations
* Design ideas
* Shrinkage: It happens!
* Working area and equipment requirements
* Nuno felting process: laying the project out and rolling
* Lots of working hints to make this and your future Nuno Felting projects successful!

Do you want to learn to crochet? Have you always wanted to make a scarf? Then this is the class for you! In this class, you will learn how to do the beginning chain and all the basic crochet stitches (slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, treble crochet). You will learn how to work in rows and change colors. We will make a scarf together as you learn the different stitches that you can take home with you and wear with joy at the end of class.

Please bring 450-650 yards of worsted to bulky weight yarn and a 11.5 mm (size P) crochet hook.

If you've ever loved a colorway as a single, but hated it plied; been frustrated with leftover singles after carefully dividing your fiber between bobbins; or wanted to create a thicker, rounder yarn without having to ply from three bobbins then it's time to learn to chain ply.
In this workshop we'll explore this technique together, you'll learn the basics of chain-plying, how to get started with your ply, how to pause without getting in a tangle, and how to fix a broken single while plying. I'll share some of my approaches to working with colorways. We'll also discuss the pros and cons of using this technique, and types of projects best suited for chain-plied yarn.
Skill level: Intermediate (Spinners should be able to comfortably spin singles and create a 2-ply yarn)
Equipment & Supplies: Spinning Wheel, Lazy Kate, 1 oz or more of prespun single still on the bobbin (a variegated or gradient yarn with long color changes is recommended), 1 empty bobbin

Have you ever spun yarn from combed top and wished to create your own? Do you own a set of combs but feel hesitant to use them? Hand combing wool fibers into top is an artisanal technique that meticulously transforms locks into a smooth, parallel preparation, perfect for worsted spinning. This method provides you with greater control over fiber selection and alignment, and it also allows for creating unique fiber blends.
In this class, you will discover various types of combs, learn how to utilize a hackle, and master the art of dizzing your fiber into a beautiful sliver for a smooth spinning experience.
You will need to bring a set of combs and a hackle, if available, along with any fiber you'd like to comb. Ensure that your fiber is scoured and ideally retains its lock structure for the best results. Additionally, I will provide a selection of fibers for you to use during the class

Colorwork stranding is a technique that allows you to work two yarn colors in each round of knitting. Working with two colors opens up vistas of color and design to your knitting, as well as allowing you to explore beautiful traditional patterns from Norway, Shetland, and many other places.

If you’ve always wanted to dip your toes in the water but you’ve been afraid to try, this is the class for you. We will practice working an easy, small pouch project in the round, giving you time to get used to stranding with one color in each hand. In the class, I’ll be offering you tips on controlling tension, yarn dominance, color combining, and more from my years of experience.

Note: We will not have time in this beginning class to cover alternative ways to hold two yarns, such as holding both yarns in the left or right hand.

Skills needed for this class: Knitters should know how to cast on (Judy’s Magic Cast On is a plus), bind off (especially I-cord bind off), and be able to join and knit a small circumference in the round on two circulars or double pointed needles. Knitters should also be familiar with reading charts.

Materials:

Yarn
Non-superwash wool sport or dk weight yarn, 60 yards in the main color, 30 yards in one or two contrast colors. Use solid or semi-solid colors if possible, and use contrast colors that are a strong value difference (light or dark) to the main color. If you’re not sure, take a picture with your phone and make it a black and white photo to test the contrast.

If using sport weight yarn, size 5 US/3.75 mm needles, either two circulars at least 24” long or a set of 5 double pointed needles
If using dk weight yarn, size 6 US/4.0 mm needles, either two circulars at least 24” long or a set of 5 double pointed needles.

These adorable ornaments are perfect for gifting or adding a handmade touch to your holiday decor. Just like real snowmen no two will be alike, making yours truly special! All levels are welcome – invite friends and discover your new favorite fiber art!

Booth size: Approximately 10’X8’ 1 – 8’ Table and one chair provided.
Public and Members will be able to shop from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Clean up and tear down begins at 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
