Learn about basic spinning wheels, how to use them and turn fluff into yarn. Teachers will help you set up your spinning wheel and learn how it works. Learn how to make the kind of yarn you want and can use to make the sweaters, socks, shawls and lots of other items you want. If you don’t have a useable spinning wheel, you can arrange to borrow one prior to class. Practice fiber and a handout will be supplied.

Learn how to make the most of the Rigid Heddle Loom! These wonderful looms make it easy to weave just about anywhere and anytime. They are a relatively inexpensive way to get into weaving and are lightweight, portable, and practical. They can be used to make everything from everyday useful things such as hand towels to luxurious shawls for that evening at the opera.
This class is designed to teach the soup to nuts of weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom. We'll cover how to select yarns and plan a project, how to calculate and prepare a warp, how to thread the loom, and how to weave the project.
You will leave the class with a completed purse and the ability to use your Rigid Heddle Loom on your own to weave a variety of handwoven projects.

Bring to class:
50 yards of their own - or a good friend’s! – handspun yarn. A variety of sizes and colors is good but not required. Diane will provide all other yarn required.
Rigid Heddle Loom that is completely ASSEMBLED and ready to weave on. If the student has any questions about the readiness of their loom, please have them contact me so we can discuss it. No Harrisville Easy Weaver looms, please.
All extra equipment that came with the loom such as threading hook, shuttles, reeds, posts, clamps, etc.

Learn how to spin using a Turkish drop spindle. Wanda will teach you how to spin using a perfectly balanced Jenkins Cross-Arm spindle which creates beautiful “cops”(small balls of spun fiber). She will be bringing spindles to use if you don’t have one already and you will be able to purchase one from her.

Class description: In this class I will teach you step by step how to needle felt your own cute little pumpkin. Your kit will come with enough supplies to make 2 different colored pumpkins. We will spend our class time making one and if you have time we can work on the second one, or you can make it at home. These little guys make great gifts and are fun decorations for every season. All levels are welcome. Invite some of your friends to join you for a fun engaging class. Students are always surprised at how unique and different everyone's pieces turn out. No two pumpkins will be alike

Needle felting is a unique and relaxing fiber art that transforms carded sheep’s wool into 2D and 3D sculptures using a special sharp barbed needle. If you have always wanted to learn this wonderful fiber art here is your chance. I will teach you some of the basics so you can start creating your own felted art pieces.

Tunisian Crochet is a cross between crocheting and knitting, but you don’t need to know how to do either one before learning Tunisian crochet. It uses a special Tunisian crochet hook that is usually longer than a regular crochet hook with a stopper at the end like a straight knitting needle.
Tunisian crochet is really fun, easy to learn, and is (for most of us) faster than either knitting or crochet. It creates a squishy, sturdy, thick fabric that I’ve used for baskets, dishcloths, and bags.
In this class we’ll start with the basic stitches, building even rows and then add increases, decreases, and finishing. There are many stitches you can learn as well.
Bring to class some worsted weight yarn that is easy to use and see what you are doing and a Tunisian crochet hook. If you don’t have a hook and are unsure about picking one out, I’ll have some for use or purchase. I’ll also have some yarn you can use in class.

Skill Level: beginner

Practice using a drum carder and blending board to create a custom design. Then learn to finish it into a piece of felt fabric.

We will offer a wide variety of fiber in a rainbow of color to blend.; silk, bamboo, mohair, alpaca, Angelina for sparkle, and more. There is no limit to what you can create!

Roosimine is an Estonian inlay colorwork technique that is as easy as pie - you simply lay the contrast color in as you go - it’s not even knitted! It produces a delightfully embossed texture that is unlike anything else. Vikkel braids, which look like a horizontal line of knitting, are incredibly complimentary to Roosimine, and the two techniques are often found together, a perfect pair!
I have designed a sample for this class that is a small, all-purpose carrying bag suitable for a cell phone, wallet, or any small treasures you need to carry. We start with a provisional cast on, join in the round, and proceed to work alternate Vikkel braids and Roosimine sections for the length of the bag. I then demonstrate some of my favorite finishing tips, including two types of I-cord and a Japanese bind-off technique that produces a very strong and firm bottom seam.
Skill Level:
Knit, purl, joining and working in the round, I-cord experience is a plus but not necessary. Student needs to have some knitting experience and be able to achieve a consistent gauge throughout a project.

Bring to class:
DK-weight yarn, approximately 60 yds for main color, approximately 20 yds for contrast color
Contrast color may also be doubled fingering-weight yarn or a fingering-weight yarn and a lace-weight mohair held together.
Size US 5 (3.75 mm) needles, your choice of double points, two circulars, or one long circular to work a small circumference in the round, plus a spare needle for bind-off
(If you are a tight knitter, use size US 6 (4.0 mm) needles. If you’re not sure, bring both sizes)
Small amount smooth waste yarn for provisional cast-on that is about the same weight as working yarns
Crochet hook one size larger than your knitting needle size
Scissors, tapestry needle

Set up will be Friday, Oct 18, from 6-7pm.
Booth size: Approximately 10’X7’ 1 – 8’ Table and one chair provided.
Public and Members will be able to shop from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Clean up and tear down begins at 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

Come join in the spinning circle. Bring your wheel, spindle, your choice of spinning equipment, knitting, crochet and spend some time with others doing what you enjoy and visit the vendors while you are there, pick up a gift for the Holiday Party. Have a fun and relaxing day!
