A Year in the Life of Our Guild
We have a very full year of activities, beginning with monthly guild meetings at which we have educational programs and social spins. Twice a year we offer beginning spinning classes, and four times a year we publish our guild newsletter, “The Colony Flyer.”
Our hallmark event is the Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase where guild members dress up in period costume and spin on their antique spinning wheels. The showcase is held the second full weekend in March at the The Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora, Oregon. In addition to the wonderful wheels, we have animals and hands-on demonstrations of crafts. We are now looking forward to our 35th year of this event on March 11-12, 2017!
In April the guild presents a Spring Fiber Fair and All Day Spin-in on a Saturday and it includes a beginning spinning class. We also have a tea and all day spin-in where everyone wears their favorite hat on a Thursday in April.
In July, we have our all day Picnic and Dye Day at the The Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora, Oregon.
Our October Workshops are in late October and feature a beginning spinning class and other spinning related classes./p>
Early December brings our Holiday Party with a potluck dinner and gift exchange.
But, that’s not all…
Every fall we have a spinning challenge. Fiber is distributed at a meeting in the fall then you bring back your completed project several months later. The rules of the challenge varies from year to year but it is a wonderful opportunity to use your skill and creativity and maybe try something new.
We also have special programs at most of our guild meetings that include special speakers, slide shows, hands-on demonstrations, etc.
