A Year in the Life
Aurora Colony Handspinners’ Guild
We have a very full year of activities, beginning with monthly guild meetings at which we have educational programs and social spins. Twice a year we offer beginning spinning classes, and four times a year we publish our guild newsletter, “The Colony Flyer.”
Our hallmark event, the Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase, is held the second full weekend in March at the historic Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora, Oregon. We are now looking forward to our 33nd year of this event!
In April, we have our Spring Fiber Fair and Fleece Sale and a beginning spinning class. And…just in case that doesn’t keep us busy enough…
In July, we have an all day Picnic and Dye Day at The Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora, Oregon.
In October, we indulge in a full day of October Workshops and Classes, a beginning spinning class and an all-day spin-in.
December brings an early Holiday Party with a potluck dinner and gift exchange.
But, that’s not all…
In April we start a Fiber/Scarf Exchange. 4 oz. of fiber in April gets you a gorgeous scarf or shawl in September.
September sees the beginning of our White After Labor Day Challenge. You get 2 oz. of white fiber and by January, turn it into anything your heart desires.
We also have special programs at most of our guild meetings that include special speakers, slide shows, hands-on demonstrations, etc.
