The Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase is the signature event of the Aurora Colony Handspinners’ Guild and is held in conjunction with the Aurora Historical Society at the Old Aurora Colony Museum. A local blogger wrote a nice summary of what you can expect to see at our showcase. Also, here is a video of a recent showcase.

There will be more than 35 antique spinning wheels in a living display—every wheel is fully functional and will be in constant use by the owners &/or guild members, dressed in costume. Also, spinning wheels that belong to the museum will be on display, including the rare oscillating pendulum wheel, of which there are only 5 known to be in existence. This wheel was developed right here in the Aurora Colony, and a replica of it will be in use during the showcase.

Most of the other wheels are owned by past and present members of our guild, and great pride is taken in maintaining and operating these wheels, all with a minimum age of 100 years. While viewing the wheels and talking with their operators, you will also have the opportunity to view the wonderful displays in the many buildings of the museum.
