One of the key missions of the Aurora Colony Handspinners’ Guild (ACHG) is to promote the awareness of the art and craft of handspinning in the community at large and to give guild members an opportunity to share, learn and study. The guild offers scholarships to eligible programs and conferences in order to encourage members to seek educational opportunities in the area of fiber arts in addition to those offered by the ACHG and to share what they have learned with the rest of the guild.
ACHG Scholarship funds awarded are for use in covering registration, related fees or other expenses for workshops, classes or programs.
Applicants must be members in good standing, with all membership dues current.
Applicant should be prepared to receive partial funding of request.
Applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
There will be a $250 grant limit from the scholarship fund in any given fiscal year (Oct. 1-Sept. 30)
Application Process and Requirements:
Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. If a member of the scholarship committee applies for a scholarship, the ACHG Executive Board will review the application.
The ACHG Board will review all scholarships if there is no standing Scholarship Committee.
The applicant will provide two (2) copies of the scholarship request to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee Chair: One for the guild secretary and one fo the scholarship Committee file.
Financial need is not a consideration.
The total amount awarded to the applicant is based on relevance of the study to ACHG Mission and is dependent on funds available. The Award will not exceed $250.
Scholarship funds cannot be used to reimburse applicants for prior workshops, classes, programs or fields of study.
Applicants must submit copies of brochures, fliers or announcements of workshops, classes or other programs referred to in the application.
Successful applicants are eligible to apply for scholarship funds after two (2) years from the date of award.
The Scholarship Committee Chair will notify the applicant no later than 30 days after receipt of application.
All scholarship funds will be used as outlined in the application.
Funds not used in the manner stated in the application shall be returned to the guild.
To support the education of all guild members, applicant must agree to complete one (1) of the following within six (6) months of receiving funds or at the completion of outlined study or course:
– Present a program for a regular ACHG meeting
– Present a mini-workshop or seminar
– Lead a study group
– Prepare a paper with slides, photos, samples or other supporting documentation to become part of ACHG archives
– Prepare a summary of the study or completed course for the ACHG Newsletter within 2 months (maximum 300 words)
